I have battled with acne most of my adult life. And while I have been able to normalize my hormones with a healthy routine, the scars remain.
Yet, I have managed to go make-up most days this year. As you can see above, I am no raging beauty. But I DO believe the texture of my skin has hugely improved since I started following simple beauty habits every morning for healthy, glowing skin that is naturally beautiful. My skin now has even tone, no dry patches, a healthy glow, fewer scars and lesser premature aging. And today, I want to share my 3 top tips for healthy, glowing skin with all of you.
Developing a beauty routine for your mornings is the best way to start your day on the right note, and keep your skin refreshed and energized for a hectic day ahead. While you will find tons of information on what all you should (and should not) be doing every AM, I have simplified the process further for you!
Like many of you, I have neither the time nor the inclination to spend a lot of time of my skincare routine. I like things simple…and I like easy, effective solutions that don’t eat into my time or energy.
This is what I do:
Tip#1: Start My Day With Two Glasses Of Water
I keep a bottle of water on my bedside. As soon as I wake up, I drink the equivalent of 2 glasses of water…even before I can get out of bed. Our bodies are made up of 70% water, so drinking water will boost your body as well as the brain. Your body needs to be rehydrated after a night’s rest, and water flushes out toxins in your body.
There are many ways to do it, too. Drink a glass of warm water with honey to also boost your digestive system, or drink a glass of chilled water to kick off your metabolism. If you don’t like the thought of plain water, squeeze half a lime into it.
Tip#2: Get A Quick Morning Workout
I try to get to my work desk as early as possible, so my main workout is planned for the evening. Yet, I make time to get moving in the morning too. Yoga and meditation are great for an AM workout routine – gentle yet effective to boost your mind, body and soul. This is my preferred method….20 to 30 minutes of yoga and meditation.
You could also go for a run, jog or power walk, and finish up with some breathing exercises and meditation. Exercise will increase blood circulation, increase cell telomeres, boost your immune system and also help you flush out more toxins in the form of sweat. It also gives you a beautiful natural glow.
Tip#3: A Consistent Skincare Routine
Your skincare routine doesn’t have to be elaborate for it to be effective. Mine is simple…but I follow it religiously.
After I wash my face with a good facewash (I use the Neutrogena Deep Clean Facial Cleanser) I use a tea-tree toner to close my pores and help tone my skin. Post that, I use an antioxidant cream-gel that contains vitamins E, C and A to protect my skin from attack of free radicals, but is not greasy. Using a good cream in the morning can offer protection all day long. I use The Body Shop Tea Tree SkinCare range, but you can use whatever product suits your skin type.
My bedtime skincare routine is similar. I wash with Neutrogena Deep Clean Facial Cleanser and then use two drops of Bio-Oil liberally all over the skin. While it is oily, it soaks up well into my skin overnight and I wake up with fresh, hydrated skin every morning.
