Even the most cursory research into the habits of very successful people reveals that they are a group of people who have a set of personal rules to guide their success. Although there are no guaranteed routes to success, adopting some of these rules may increase the odds of our becoming successful, too.
- Know What They Want, Why They Want It
“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” – Mark Twain.
Understand your purpose and it will fuel your drive. Find your why. If you don’t know what it is, create it. That will motivate you to make a difference. Knowing exactly why you want what you want to do will give you more clarity and also keep you dedicated.
- Never lose Sight Of The Big Picture
“Create the highest, grandest vision possible for your life, because you become what you believe.” – Oprah Winfrey.
There will be days where work will feel boring, when tasks feel repetitive, or when you feel like you have 100 things to do on your checklist. There also those days when you’re just plain irritated. The easy thing to do is to feel frustrated and to give up. However, you could stay focused on the big picture.
- Stay Active To Stay Productive
“Everyone knows that exercise can improve your health. Exercise is a key part of managing your weight and maintaining healthy hearts, lungs, and other bodily systems. But did you know that exercise can make you more productive?” – Robert Pozen.
A lot of times it’s hard to get motivated if you’re not in a good mood. Research has shown that working out multiple times a week for a reasonable period of time can reduce the symptoms of depression. Exercising for 30 minutes can also increase levels of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine which can help to reduce stress.
- Be The Best You Can Be At What You Do
“Success is doing ordinary things extraordinarily well.”- Jim Rohn.
You are your own competition and your own critique. Successful people know that constant comparisons with others are a fruitless exercise, no more than a distraction.
- Enjoy The Journey; Don’t Wait To Reach The Destination Before You Have Fun
“Success is a journey, not a destination. Have faith in your ability. You will do just fine.” – Bruce Lee.
If you’re having fun, you’re going to be more motivated to do great work. This is true for 90% of the people. Okay, I have no proof that is statistically true, but I’m pretty sure for most people this holds true.
- Don’t Be Scared To Fail
“Failure is an opportunity to begin again more intelligently” – Henry Ford.
Until you fail, you will not learn. And to be successful, you need to become the BEST. Failure can be a springboard to success. Failure provides you with the opportunity to grow and develop – to succeed. You can’t take it personally. Failure is an outcome. It is a result of things you have done. It is not who you are. Every mistake you make teaches you a valuable lesson.
